Textile Design

The art pieces here have incorporations of my traditional Tsuut’ina Gunaha (language) where I use the opportunity to reflect on notes I have taken over the years practicing Tsuut’ina and writing down translations from elders I work with closely. My choice to integrate my language by using screen-printing text onto my artwork is a layered topic. It serves as another medium to continue practicing and learning my language. The overall process speaks to the journey of language learning itself, which is often a repetitive process to learn new words and phrases.

Creating work that holds the language in a different space and around different audiences create an opportunity for language exposure to happen for others and a dialogue to happen around the importance of Indigenous language revitalization.
